Where are the abductors located?

  • Mainly on the outer side of the hip joint
  • Also includes smaller muscles on the outer thigh

Function:

  • Primary role: move the leg outward (abduction)

  • Stabilize the pelvis during walking, running, or standing on one leg

Why is it important?

  • Prevent knee misalignment (e.g., knock knees)

  • Stabilize the hips and pelvis
